So I need some help ladies, (and guys lol) I am a stay at home mom and just can’t get into the whole cooking thing. I really do like to but with three kids I just can’t seem to get a system down to get to it everyday. Usually hubby ends up cooking. I feel bad since he works all day so that I can stay home :/ So I guess as a late resolution I would like to start cooking every night. Help!

Posted on April 1st, 2008 at 2:07 amhow old are the kids?
the older ones could help either you, or entertaining there siblings while you prepare your meal.
Get craft for the kids to do. Allow them to do those when you start to preapre. Then when supper is done get them to show you what they made and do a family vote to see whose is the best, and give that child a star on the chart. Votes can remain anonomous so no feelings are hurt
This will give you a jump on supper while getting them to concentrate on neat projects.

Posted on April 2nd, 2008 at 9:03 amHave you checked out crock pots? Very easy to set up in the morning and it slow cooks all day. It makes the house smell great also. Usually, a cookbook comes with most crock pots.

Posted on April 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 pmTry to find easier recipes – I usually go to kraft or campbells online to find some. One thing I find handy is to make a large amount of food, purchase multiple tupperware pieces, and freeze the meals into smaller portions – that way, you can just thaw your meal every now and then!
Is there a way you can prepare a meal ahead of time? Maybe when the kids go to sleep, you can do some of the prep work (cutting meat, cutting veggies, etc.) so then it won’t take too much time to do it the next day. That usually works for me.
Good luck!

Posted on April 6th, 2008 at 4:28 pmWhen my children were younger I would take one day and do all the prep work for that weeks meals, chopping vegies, mixing spices, bagging them. Then I would take all those great little bags you get your groceries in and bag each days ingredients together and label them mon-sun. I would include the recipe in the bag as well. On a calender on the fridge we would put down what time dinner needed to be started in order to be done on time. This helped out tremendously! Also if you are trying to get menu ideas, I would save the school lunch programs (also can be found on-line for your school district usually at the town homepage) and would get great ideas from those. It also helped to insure that what the kids were eating at school that day for lunch wasn’t the same as what we were planning for dinner. One other thing that we did when they got a little older was we had “guinea pig night” where one of the kids would pick a number between 1-100 (pick #’s in the entree section) and whatever # they chose, we would turn to that page in our huge cookbook and that would be what was for dinner, regardless of what it was, it opened up alot of new tastes to them that they wouldn’t ordinarily experience, as well as it got us all cooking and having fun together even if for only a few hours one night a week.
